Update Part 1:
Chemo treatment 7 was completed on November 28th at St Mary’s Hospital and Tyler will soon be released from Mercy Hospital from his extended stay of 7 or 8 days while being Neutropenic from the chemo treatment. Tyler’s 2 day regime of chemo medicine was supposed to be reduced 25 % as was the 5 day treatment. Even with the med reduction the treatment knocked him hard. I was expecting a shorter stay in the hospital like last time while being Neutropenic but Tyler’s throat was really bad this time. He thought if the doctors were to open his throat to see what was going on they would be able to pull out a brick that is sitting in there. Tyler had another procedure before chemo to stretch his esophagus since it felt more constricted. Whether that inflamed the tissue in his throat and it wasn’t able to recover before his counts started to drop may be what contributed to the extra throat problems. The last couple chemo treatments Tyler had experience bed shaking hiccups for a short period of time but for some reason this time he had 48 hours of hiccups. He would have short periods of rest then the hiccups would start again. Most of the time the hiccups were not bed shaking but very hard noticeable hiccups. Dr. Feeley kept reassuring us that when his counts recover he thought the hiccups would go away, which is what did happen. I on the other hand wanted a reason why this is happening maybe someday I will learn it’s the Chemo and the affects it has on the body. The doctors keep telling me everybody is different how poeple handle chemo and what it will do to the body. Sometime things like this come up and the doctors shrug their shoulders and say just wait it will get better. While Tyler was in the midst of his hiccups Rusty reminded us of the story he watched on TV of a young girl that has been having hiccups for 26 years…I just kept thinking OH MY!!!!
