Hello everyone, I'm finally using the update feature to give a HUGE thanks to all of you for supporting Safeword Sasquatch and the idea of this record in advance. It really means so much to us and helped us financially in a huge way. The record is finished and I will be sending out download codes to everyone in the next couple days. This will allow you to download the full album at our bandcamp site before anyone else. Public release is May 7.
We've got the CDs, t-shirts, and stickers ordered and will mail you the rest of your perks when we have them, or you can pick up at the release show - Sat. May 18th at the White Rabbit - with The Glass Notes and The Jesus Rehab.
A few huge shout outs of thanks. We had an additional $500 donated by Liz's dad and step-mom, David and Sheri Mayer. They are credited as executive producers alongside our biggest indiegogo donor Michael Raley. We can't thank The Glass Notes and The Jesus Rehab enough for being part of the release show.
Christa Fischer and Julia Massey perform on the record as guest vocalists and we couldn't be more thrilled with the result. And Geoff B. Gibbs loaned us 2 very nice microphones that we used for the majority of the tracking.
I know I'm going long, but I also want to share the process and experience of making this record and what it means to me. I hadn't made a record of my songs in longer than I'd like to admit. We started in November by recording all the drums only at Earwig Studio. This went great and we proceeded to track at home in Pro Tools, cello and all the guitars. When I started working on vocals in December I realized I was really having difficulties singing, like I had never experienced in my life before. I actually couldn't get my voice to do what it normally did, notes that had been easy were a strain. After some experimentation and self diagnosis I discovered it was a result of acid-reflux and damage to the esophagus. I went on medication and made all kinds of changes to diet and lifestyle. I then had weeks of resting and attempting to sing with limited results. I thought I might never sing again. Finally I tried acupuncture, and went twice a week for 8 or 10 weeks. It seemed to work and my voice was coming back. Since I was down to the wire I took a whole week off in March, singing 6 - 8 hours per day for 7 days straight. Then I made short work of mixing and I'm very happy with the end result. I hope you enjoy this record as much as I do!
