Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
BIG NEWS (though you are some of the first to hear - press release going out next week) - Building contract for SV Greenheart is signed and delivered - we are wiring the money tomorrow and the building sequence has begun. Thank you so much for your support and in great part you have helped make this happen.
Do we have all of the money you may ask, the answer is NO, but we have raised enough for all of the down payments and to take us through to September. We are arranging fundraising events worldwide over the next 3 months
- London (mid-May)
- Fiji (mid-May)
- Nantes (22-24 May)
- Washington (ealry Jun or July)
- Bristol (12-14 June)
- Rotterdam (25-27 June)
- Amsterdam (28-30 June)
- Hamburg (2-5 July)
- Copenhagen /Tokyo / Kyoto (mid July)
Sponsor - welcomed Germanischer Lloyd on as another sponsor, one of the largest shipping classification societies supervising the build, certifying the ship etc.
Global Poverty Challenge - On the additional challenge side of things, from 29th April - 3rd May, we (my wife, kids and members of Greenheart) will be taking part in the
poverty awareness campaign called Live Below The Line to raise money for both Practical Action (Appropriate technology solutions for the developing world) and Greenheart, and we need your support.
The Live Below the Line campaign involves the challenge to feed ourselves with just £1 a day. £1 a day is the British equivalent of the Extreme Poverty Line. 1.4 billion people worldwide are currently live below this Line.
This is going to be quite a challenge for all of us, the kids are already asking a lot of questions and that discussion is a really important part of the campaign, we are currently planning our menu and one way to support us is to send us any good, low cost recipes we could try out.
Another way is to join us for a day or two living on £1 a day, then donate the money you save to either Practical Action
https://www.livebelowtheline.com/me/gavin
or directly to Greenheart http://www.greenheartproject.org/en/donate.html
If you can join us, send me food pictures/thoughts about poverty, messages etc. and we'll add those to our blog – that would be great.
Another way is to spread the word, Facebook,
Twitter etc. That would be a big boost – we will be able to continue to take donations up to the 1st July and we may even try to extend the challenge if we get a good level of support.
