We all love Shavasana! Shavasana, or the final relaxation - corpse pose - is an integral part of the yoga practice, as well as in living a healthy life in general. The final relaxation is a guided, conscious relaxation of each part of the body from the toes upwards to the head, which allows the effects of the yoga practice to crystallize within the being. Even outside the yoga practice, doing a self-guided relaxation of the body, whether it be lying down or sitting in a chair, for even five minutes promotes a sense of well being, improves blood circulation, decreases stress, and makes sleeping easier and deeper. This is particularly helpful for the students, as often their bodies hold tension which is not as easily released with any other method.
